This disposable coffee cup called "Compleat" is a nice advance in designing products with less waste. Peter Herman of Ellenzwieg and Daren Bascome of Proverb, partnered to create this paper cup that folds creating a lid and drinking spout. This removes the need for a separate plastic lid and hence less waste. The product is in the pre-production phase and they are also hoping to waterproof the paper with a celluluse-based plastic that can be composted. via | fast company design
I do love a beautifully designed shoe and here are two of my current favorites. I don't need them, but boy do I sure want them. Just looking at them makes me want to dance. Both styles can be at Ruche.
I really like the simple yet bold color palette Lara Cameron uses to design her textiles. They feel retro and timeless simultaneously.
As the year draws to a close it's time to start thinking about a new calendar for next year. I like this design by Magpie Lovely. Each month features a different charming illustration and they'd look lovely cropped and framed when 2013 rolls around. Upcycling!
There's a lot of ruckus going on about the seasonal Holiday Coca-Cola cans that are on shelves this year. Now first let me say I agree with the backlash against "New Coke"—that was simply a disaster and if you have a wildly successful brand, you really don't need to change it for the sake of change. I think the funniest news item I saw was that some consumers were "confused" by the graphic. Maybe the "ruckus" was just a brilliantly staged marketing ploy to sell more soda. Still, speaking strictly design—I think the graphic is simple, elegant and striking.
