My friend Holly took me to one of the best vintage & handmade sales I've ever seen. It was the Dallas Flea and we scored some terrific merchandise. My favorite acquisitions were this American Tourister "Tiara" train case and a really useful mini flat file rolling cart.
Biplane invitations
New invitation in the print shop — a vintage biplane for high-flying birthday fun. I wish I had some little ones just to throw a party. I love putting together themed soirees.
Book lust: Gertie's New Book for Better Sewing
Yet another book that's made it onto my wish list: Gertie's New Book for Better Sewing: A Modern Guide to Couture-Style Sewing Using Basic Vintage Techniques. The book grew from her blog: Gertie's New Blog for Better Sewing which is full of tutorials.
Custom made rocking scooter
Don't you think a kid would feel like George Jetson on this groovy rocking scooter? They are made to order at TheatronItalianArt.
Vintage Cocktail Recipe Brochure
Here's another recent find at the local flea market. I love these old promotional recipe books the spirits industry used to put out. This one has great illustrations and each spread is cut shorter than the next so when it's open to the middle as pictured above you see every recipe in the booklet at a glance. I think I'll mix up a few classic drinks for the holiday. Manhattan's perhaps Mimi? You know who I'm talkin' to. ;-)
Friday Fun — remember BeDazzler?
Oh my. Did you know they still make the BeDazzler? Remember the commercials back in the day the day that convinced you a transformative wardrobe could be yours if only you had the BeDazzler and a few rhinestones? This is bringing back all kinds of memories like the Ronco Pocket Fisherman.
Vintage cookbooks
Score! I don't know if I've talked about how much I love to rummage through flea markets for vintage finds—I can spend hours combing through merchandise and imaginging the life each object had with its previous owner. I recently got this charming book titled "Festive Seafood Cookery" by Edna Beilenson with illustrations by Maggie Jarvis for $1. I'm in love with Maggie's work and can't wait to try out such dishes as "salmon souffle" and "pancakes stuffed with lobster has."
