A broken flower pot needn't be tossed out. Look at these brilliant fairy gardens created from broken pots for a second life. The shards are used to make a small scale terrace effect. Anyone old enough to remember the terrarium craze of the 70's?
Handmade Highlight
The creations of Ruth at Wild Wood Hollow always make me smile. They are made using a technique called needle felting which uses wool and a barbed needle to shape the fibers. Her detailing is equisite. Below are two of my favorite critters.
Upcycled cork boutonnieres
Love these boutonnieres found at PaperCity magazine. I'm always looking for a new way to upcycle our huge collection of wine bottle corks.
DIY sit down desk to stand up desk
I've been slouching more and more at my desk and finally said "enough!" I searched online, but all the stand up desks were just so ugly and I love the design of my current desk. I asked my hubby to please, please, please help me fix my desk and this is how we did it.
Materials: 2 x 2 wood, dowel screws, spray paint, wood glue
- Cut wood into 4 sections into length desired to raise desk height
- Insert dowel screws into the newly created "leg extenders" and spray paint
- When dry, put wood glue on desk legs and screw extenders into place
We also added back the nylon bumper feet that were attached to the original legs
Upcycled cardboard lamp
Now this is some high end upcycling. This cardboard house lamp made by Vera van Wolferen are made to order through her Etsy shop Life In Cardboard. No two will be precisely alike, but that's most of the appeal in my opinion. Charming.
Upcycled tubing lamp
My hubby is so talented! Look what he made for my studio — a lamp created from upcycled metal tubing and steel rods. I also love the soft shade of green he chose to paint it.
Upcycled decanter lighting
Now this is really creative — wine and spirits decanters that have been upcycled into pendant lights. Check out the full line of designs at the Tudo and Co etsy shop.
