I love luminaries during the holidays, but the traditional paper bags filled with sand only get one use which seems like a bit of a waste. Soup or vegetable cans make wonderful luminaries and you only need some paint, a hammer and a nail to create intricate patterns.

Beautiful interior paint schemes
I've been considering repainting the studio. Our entire house with the exception of the guest bedroom, is a neutral sand color which works well with our mishmash of furniture and styles, but I'm starting to long for some color. I love these examples from House Beautiful — the aqua blue is my fave. What color could you live with day in and day out?
